Nuvo's P10 wall control

Legrand’s NuVo Technologies puts wireless audio control within reach – both physically and financially—thanks to the P10 PoE keypad.

We love controlling, choosing songs and volume on our phones, iPads etc.... but sometimes you just want to walk into a room and press a button by the light switch and be instantly listening to your favourite songs.

The single-gang device works with NuVo’s affordable wireless (and wired) audio systems to control volume, tracks and playlists. Just plug it into the home network and it immediately “gets noticed” by NuVo’s Player Portfolio for music management, says NuVo product manager Walt Zerbe.

But that’s not all. NuVo recently updated its app to support up to 10 FAVORITES assigned and recalled by users.

Favorites could be songs, artists, radio channels, playlists or any other type of content that can be accessed through the app.

Once the FAVORITES are established, the top five can be launched with a single button press on the P10 keypad. In fact, pressing just one button automatically “wakes up the zone and starts playing,” Zerbe says.

The addition of FAVORITES to the NuVo application serves another purpose. It makes it easier for third-party control systems to recall (and update on-the-fly) any of the presets.

iRobot adds cleaning analytics and Alexa integration

iRobot the robotic vacuum cleaner company are upping the game with their new high end home cleaning robots.

They are bringing Amazon Alexa integration to its high-end vacuuming robots with a hefty dose of analytics via an app update that will provide post-cleaning maps as well as total space cleaned.

iRobot's app for its Roomba 900 Series vacuuming robots is akin to MyFitnessPal for cleaning;
Amazon's Alexa is increasingly becoming a home operating system;
The smart home is being mapped to add a new level of localization.

iRobot's Roomba 900 Series build maps via navigation tools and visual localization. These maps are then delivered via a Clean Map in the iRobot Home App. Data such as total area and duration for up to 30 cleaning jobs is supported. A patented technology called Leveraging Dirt Detect provides data on debris and focused cleaning areas.

As for Alexa, iRobot said a skill for Roomba vacuuming robots will be added in the second quarter.

Add it up and the updates to iRobot's Roomba 900 Series are a step to what CEO Colin Angle said is a "vision of an ecosystem of home robots that work collaboratively and further enable the smart home."

Sonos Playbase is released

The Sonos Playbase has been released (it's not yet available in Thailand) and it's another cool addition to their stable of multi-room and home cinema products.

Essentially it's a Sonos Playbar that sites directly below the TV acting as a TV stand, this means that you can have a nice tidy install even if you don't wall mount your TV.

So if you've been waiting to add your TV to your audio system but couldn't use the soundbar then this is ideal for you.  Partner it with a Sonos Sub and two Play 1's and you have a surround sound setup for Home Cinema.

Renters can enjoy a Smart Home also

Nowadays with so many IOT (Internet Of Things) devices it's so much easier to make your house Smarter, or in some cases somebody else's house.  Renters are now able to use products such as Amazon Echo, Philips Hue, Smartthings, Sonos Audio etc.... without having to make any physical changes to the house.

Take for example this one couple in San Francisco who did just that to their rented home, using products from Wink, August, GoControl, Leviton, Philips Hue and Amazons Alexa they have a full smart home system that can be removed at any time.

Tyler and Julia Waneka moved to the city about five years ago. Both work in the tech industry, but they wouldn’t consider themselves early adopters. Techies or not, the Wanekas met the typical San Francisco housing problem: They were priced out of owning.

Their decision to stay in the city but rent long-term was one of the main reasons the Wanekas looked into home tech. They thought: What would we do to our home if we did own? How can we make this apartment more our own? As it turns out, today’s smart home products usually come without extensive wiring, offering the couple a chance to customize and upgrade their place—and the landlord doesn’t have to know a thing

Wise men Speak, when they have something to say...

"We've just had a monster delivery of our favourite architectural speakers from Nuvo" - These are our very favourite in-ceiling, in-wall and outdoor speakers.  They sound magnificent, last for ever and are (almost) bomb-proof (we haven't tested).

We ordered so many they needed a crane to lift them all off the truck.

We've got a load of non-Phuket jobs coming up, the next few weeks will see us in Hua Hin (Sonos and Home Cinema), Bangkok (Nuvo Speakers and Sonos) and Chiang Mai (Nuvo speakers and wireless amplifiers).  These bad boys are going to come in very useful.
